With roughly half of our 26 area teams in action on Friday, several regions will tip off their schedules as the race for region titles begins.

Regions 8-6A, 6-6A, 7-5A, 6-3A, 7-2A and GIAA District 4-4A/3A all have key games on tap.

Perhaps the biggest matchup will be on the girls side where Chestatee and Pickens will open up their Region 6-3A schedule in Jasper. The Lady Dragons are ranked 9th in the latest Sandy Spiel poll and are the defending region champions.

Gainesville, ranked No. 1 in the latest Sandy Spiel poll, opens up its Region 7-5A schedule against Chattahoochee on the road in Alpharetta.
