The search for a Gainesville native who went missing in the Blood Mountain area of Union County is continuing Saturday, with authorities now turning to local hunters for help.

Charles Hosch, age 67, went missing on Tuesday, Nov. 11. His last known location was the Byron Herbert Reece Trailhead near the border of Union and Lumpkin counties on Blood Mountain.

A statement from the Union County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, Nov. 14, said more than 10 agencies were searching the area for Hosch, including the Walasi-Yi Center and the Mountain Crossings parking area. As the search continued Saturday, the sheriff’s office said they are now asking area hunters for game camera footage to help them locate Hosch.

“If you have game cameras on or near the Byron Herbert Reece Trail or surrounding Blood Mountain area, please contact Union County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 706-439-6091,” the sheriff’s office said. “Your trail camera footage could provide critical information to help bring Charles home. Time is critical.”

Hosch is a law partner at Texas-based Hosch & Morris, PLLC law firm. The firm has also issued statements on the ongoing search for Hosch.

“He set out on a hike on the Byron Herbert Reece Trail near Blood Mountain in Union County, Georgia – an area he has known and loved since his youth in nearby Gainesville,” a statement on the firm’s website says. “Charles has deep roots in North Georgia and intimate knowledge of these mountain trails he has hiked throughout his life.”

Hosch is listed as 6-feet-1-inch tall, weighing around 200 pounds with white hair and glasses. He was last seen wearing khaki pants, a camel-colored sweater and a dark green jacket.

“There have been positive canine indications of a place on the trail where Charles likely went, which gives the search team some confirmation that he was [on] the trail, and his family and friends some new hope for the search,” the firm said Friday night.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office also posted Friday that due to heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area, they are advising the public not to travel to the area unless necessary to avoid further impeding the search efforts.
