Around the SEC Doesn’t Like Ultimatums

Welcome to the penultimate Around the SEC of the regular season. While others moan and gripe about the SEC slate of games this weekend despite not having what would be deemed as a gauntlet of a schedule themselves (looking at you, Ohio State and Indiana), we here want to see who is making headlines (looking at you, Lane Kiffin).

Speaking of Lane Kiffin
Ole Miss’ head ball coach was reportedly given an ultimatum by his employer to provide clarity over his future by next week’s Egg Bowl. There is speculation that Kiffin could take either the Florida or LSU jobs with rumors swirling. I believe Kiffin will end up staying in Oxford, but this is tremendous theatre to watch unfold.

Arkansas Keeps Searching

There was initial speculation that recently fired Penn State coach James Franklin would be headed to Fayetteville; however, that will not be happening as Franklin chose Virginia Tech as his next destination. The search continues for Arkansas to replace Sam Pittman.

Elko Extended

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko agreed to a contract extension that keeps him in College Station until 2031. He followed that up by pulling off a 27-point comeback against South Carolina. Now, to see if they can topple Texas in a week’s time…

LSU Quarterback Staying

LSU quarterback Michael Van Buren has stated that he will remain in Baton Rouge rather than transfer as the school looks for a new head coach. Van Buren will get plenty of reps the rest of the season as Garrett Nussmeier recovers from an abdominal injury, and he has the inside track at the starting job in 2026.
