A growing tradition to bring fellowship and community together for Thanksgiving is returning to the Habersham County city of Clarkesville.

The Clarkesville Community Thanksgiving looks to provide free meals to residents throughout the area, while seeing more local involvement for 2025 and seeking even more volunteers.

Eric Holbrooks is coordinator for Clarkesville Community Thanksgiving and spoke with AccessWDUN’s “Mornings on Maine Street” Tuesday to describe what they plan to handle before, and during Thanksgiving morning’s service at Clarkesville First Presbyterian Church, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Holbrooks also says several Habersham County businesses and organizations are teaming with Clarkesville Community Thanksgiving to provide more supplies in 2025. Those groups include:

Holbrooks says that they continue to need donations for their meals, and ask to have the following items donated to their cause:
  • Turkeys
  • Green Beans
  • Canned Corn
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Brown Gravy
  • Stick Butter
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Milk
  • Corn Meal
  • Cream of Chicken
  • Cream of Celery
  • Salt, Pepper and Sage
  • Tea- gallon sized
  • Desserts
  • To Go Plates
  • Utensils
If you are able to make an item donation, Holbrooks says one of the locations to make a drop-off is the Dairy Queen restaurant in Clarkesville, located at 1498 Historic Hwy 441 North – ask for Sherry.
If you cannot provide an actual item but wish to contribute monetarily, you can donate to the Venmo account for, “Clarkesville-Thanksgiving”.
