*The federal government, at the direction of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, plans to investigate MARTA in the wake of two recent stabbings, one fatal, on the transit system. The AJC reports that Duffy asked the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to look at MARTA’s safety and security spending and planning.
*A Chinese national pleads guilty of laundering millions of dollars through Georgia using a drug trafficking organization. The 50-year-old was accused of traveling through the Peach State and in the Carolinas to collect money from drug sales. Those funds would then be used to buy bulk electronics for exporting. FOX5 reports the man entered the plea yesterday.
*Savannah-Chatham County school leaders are trying to make up for millions of dollars in this year’s budget. WTOC reports the deficit has grown to just over six million dollars so far. Superintendent Denise Watts told WTOC that increased expenses, legislative changes and declining enrollment are all factors in the shortfall. Board members must work on passing a budget by the end of this month.
*The Augusta-Richmond County Commission is placing a seven-week hold on data centers. Tuesday night, the commission passed the motion unanimously to give the Planning and Development Department time to draft a full ordinance for data centers. Several residents have voiced their opinions on data centers in recent months, saying they want responsible growth and transparency from city leaders.
