Drought conditions have eased somewhat across Georgia for the first time in weeks following several days of rain since the last report a week ago from the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM).

This week’s report shows a decrease in coverage for every category used by the drought monitor to gauge conditions which are currently in effect in the state: Moderate, Severe, Extreme, and Exceptional.

In our area, the most noticeable improvements were in counties along the South Carolina border. Rain in Hall County and most adjoining counties was not enough to move the “drought meter” from Extreme back to Severe.

And the level of Lake Lanier is on the rise because of the rains. A week ago, it stood at 1065.6. It’s now 1066.2. That’s an increase of more than half-a-foot and has been increasing almost daily since last Friday.
