Let the holiday rush begin; Voter turnout; Polling place lockdown; Stranded Atlanta motorists

*Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is preparing for more travelers this weekend. Nearly three-million people are expected to travel through Atlanta between yesterday and next Wednesday for the Memorial Day period. The busiest day of the holiday weekend is likely going to be tomorrow.  And despite the high gas prices, AAA predicts 1.3 million Georgians will travel by car at least 50 miles from home for the weekend, which would be a new record for the holiday.
 
*Georgia is reporting high voting numbers for this year’s primary elections Tuesday. The secretary of state’s office says 28 percent of registered voters cast a ballot in Tuesday’s races. Nearly half of the two million people who voted did so during early voting which ended last Friday.  

*Two people are behind bars after causing a large police response that resulted in a Fulton County polling location to shut down for several hours. As voters arrived at Ison Springs Elementary to cast their ballots in the primary election, Sandy Springs Police were searching for a suspicious man in military-style gear carrying a gun. It was an incident that led to the location shutting down. The disruption lasted several hours and the polling place didn’t reopen until 4:00 and remained open until 11:00, to allow those affected by the incident time to vote.  

*Flash flooding stranded several motorists on the on Atlanta’s Downtown Connector during Wednesday afternoon rush hour, leading the state patrol to close the highway. Fox 5 reports vehicles whose drivers attempted to push through the floodwaters soon stalled, leaving some motorists stranded atop their vehicles until they could make it to the side of the road. A Flash Flood Warning had been issued moments earlier by the National Weather Service for Fulton and DeKalb counties.
