FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ga. — A 19-year-old Toccoa woman was seriously injured Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of GA 17 and Old Highway 17 in Franklin County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Troopers from Post 52 in Hartwell responded to the crash around 10:50 a.m. on May 11.
The preliminary investigation indicates a 2007 Honda Fit was traveling west on Old Highway 17, approaching the intersection with GA 17. A 2016 Ford F-350 Super Duty pulling a trailer was traveling north on GA 17.
Investigators said the driver of the Honda stopped at a posted stop sign but failed to yield the right-of-way to the oncoming Ford. The front of the Ford struck the driver’s side of the Honda in the intersection.
After impact, the Honda spun out through the median and came to rest on the shoulder of the highway.
The Honda driver, 19-year-old Ariana Nicole Sheriff, suffered serious injuries and was transported by Franklin County EMS to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
A passenger in the Honda, 19-year-old Corey Martin Atkinson of Eastanollee, and the pickup truck driver, 63-year-old Jerold Armand Catenacci of Cleveland, were not injured.
Troopers said no impairment is suspected. Charges are pending against Sheriff.
