Friday morning, May 8, 2026, the Stephens County (SC) Board of Commissioners, County Administrator Christian Hamilton, Sheriff Rusty Fulbright, and Stephens County Sheriff’s Office administrative staff held a groundbreaking ceremony at the construction site for the new Criminal Investigations Division (CID) building on Scenic Drive.

Sheriff Fulbright is grateful to the current Board of Commissioners, who saw the need for a new building and made it happen.

Stephens County Commissioner Chuck Wright serves on the Buildings and Grounds Committee and pushed for the new CID building.

The new CID building will be a three-sided metal structure that will be a new addition to the Stephens County Detention Center. Stephens County Commissioner Tara Simmons is pleased that there will be a new building for investigators, but also victims needing their assistance.

In May, Piedmont Contracting, LLC, began working on the foundation for the new CID building, which is anticipated to be completed in 3-5 months.
