A 12-year-old Jackson County boy who has ADHD is mourning the loss of his favorite pet – a 400-pound “therapy” pig who was shot and killed recently, reportedly by a neighbor.
Garrett Cox’s family brought Bootsy home about a year ago to help their son, WSB-TV reports.
Garrett’s mother, Kerrie Cox, said the boy was struggling at school and found hope through joining the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and training the pig for competitions.
But last week Bootsy got out of her pen and was later found shot to death.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says only that the incident is part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
