A video posted online Sunday May 3, 2026, shows a Lee County inmate being tased then jail workers laughing about it inside the Lee County Jail. The date and time stamp on the video indicates the incident took place February 17, 2026. The unidentified inmate is seen approaching the window of another cell and does not appear to be a physical threat from the camera angle recording the incident when the inmate is tased.
Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones confirmed the authenticity of the video to another media outlet and stated an investigation is underway.
Delaina Guess posted the video on Facebook with the caption “So this is how Lee county Alabama is run? Laughing and walking off when someone is tazed? And tazed from behind the desk! What kind of craziness is this?” It is unclear how Guess obtained the video and the post has since been shared hundreds of times across social media.
Other citizens who have had a negative experience involving the Lee County Jail were quick to sound off on the post. “Yep that’s our fine current justice system hard at work … They, as in multiple officers, pepper sprayed, tased and beat the living hell out of MY MOMMA! WHILE IN HANDCUFFS! WHILE IN BOOKING! Just to reference my momma is about 5’4 and 120 pounds soaking wet. They have been allowed to act like this and gotten away unscathed so many times that they aren’t even TRYING to F*CK*NG HIDE IT ANYMORE,” one person exclaimed.
The damning video surfaces just days now before the republican primary in Lee County where Jones is in a heated race to retain his position as sheriff. The conditions inside the Lee County Jail have been a campaign talking point for his opponent Cam Hunt.
Hunt was quick to respond to the surveillance video from inside the jail with his own post titled “Failure”. Sheriff Jay Jones’ republican challenger wrote “The video out of the Lee County Jail is deeply concerning. The conduct shown is reprehensible and raises serious questions about how force is being used inside a controlled environment.”
