Davis Strickland hit a walk off grand slam, capping off an incredible two-out bottom of the 7th, and Morgan County defeated Stephens County 7-3 Friday night in Madison to win the series 2 games to 1 and advance in the AA State Baseball Playoffs.

Stephens County took an early 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning when Will Faulk walked with the bases loaded to score Duke Collins, and Christian Hewitt had a sacrifice fly, RBI scoring Branson Stowe.

The Indians added an insurance run in the top of the 7th inning when Collins RBI single scored Junior Waldrop to take a 3-0 lead to the bottom of the 7th.

In the bottom of the 7th, Landry Williams who had pitched a gem, got the first two batters out, but two hits and an error loaded the bases. A single by Cole Wesley pulled the Bulldogs within two runs. Findley Ward, the game one winner on Thursday took the mound in relief, but Ty Tillery’s single scored two tying the game before Strickland’s grand slam ended the Indians season.

Williams was outstanding for the Indians allowing only 3 hits and striking out 6 through the first six innings.

Morgan County improved to 30-4 on the season and will host Rockmart in the next round.

Stephens County’s season comes to an end at 18-14.

This was the final game for seven Indians seniors: Christian Hewitt, Noah Holbrooks, Findley Ward, Lane Presley, Caden Hogan, Will Faulk, and Junior Waldrop.
