A patio chair is just a patio chair without a proper companion – floating, untethered, and never quite achieving the cozy, could-pass-indoors look we want from an outdoor living room. Unless, of course, it has a side table.
Because our brains don’t immediately associate ‘backyard’ with ‘furniture,’ a side table brings a loose mix of chairs and sofas a sense of cohesion, insisting that the space is, in fact, a real room.
