CLEVELAND, Ga. — The Cleveland Downtown Development Authority is about to undertake two important surveys, one to find out how the citizens and visitors feel about the city, and another to examine the parking needs. During their meeting on Thursday, April 16, the authority voted to approve a Small Town Charm Survey that will call on local residents to express how they feel about Cleveland.

The survey will be conducted by volunteers walking around downtown, plus there will be online and email surveys.

Chairman of the DDA board, Gary Adkins, said, “We’re trying to get the information so that we can plan for the future uses that we need support for, that we need for the businesses here. And keeping in mind what the community and the residents feel that they would like to have also, that’s very important.”

Another aspect of the survey will help the authority with marketing ideas. The survey is expected to be rolled out in the next week or so.

The authority also discussed parking, walking, and signage in the downtown area with a primary focus on downtown parking. Tom O’Bryant, Economic Development Director for the City of Cleveland, said the “big factor is cost and who will pay for it.”  That survey will be conducted by authority members and will take up to 6 months to complete.
