WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — Crews continue working to fully contain a wildfire burning on Buzzard Mountain in White County.
Firefighters have established a perimeter around a spot fire estimated at 30 acres, according to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy. In a late Sunday night update, Murphy said the original fire is estimated at 16 acres. As of April 12, the fire was about 20% contained.
The Georgia Forestry Commission and the U.S. Forest Service are leading the response, with several aircraft assisting. An additional U.S. Forest Service crew is expected to arrive Monday to support containment efforts.
White County Fire Services is also on scene, focusing on protecting nearby homes and structures as crews work to slow the fire’s spread.
Buzzard Mountain is located about 11 miles northwest of Cleveland near Highway 129 (Turners Corner Road).
