The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, SC, reports that there will be an increased fire danger in Northeast Georgia on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in the afternoon and evening. Rabun, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin, Hart, and Elbert counties are under advisement of this increased fire danger.
Dry brush and leaf litter have become very dry in recent days due to breezy conditions and low relative humidity. These conditions are forecast again today. Relative humidity will fall below 25 percent for much of the afternoon. Given the dry vegetation, outdoor fires will spread quickly once started, increasing the danger of wildfires.
Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities if you can burn on Thursday. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.
