DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. — The suspect in a deadly shooting in Dawson County is now in custody, authorities confirmed.

Roy “JoJo” Holloway, who was wanted in connection with the March 24 murder, was taken into custody in Davidson County, North Carolina, according to the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting, along Highway 136, claimed the life of 38-year-old Justin Thompson of Dawsonville. Investigators previously said that Thompson and Holloway knew each other and that there was no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.

Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson said the arrest followed an extensive, multi-agency effort.

“From the first responding deputies to our investigators working through the night, our dispatchers, and the nonstop efforts of our Warrants Unit, this has truly been an all-hands-on-deck effort,” Johnson said. “I’ve seen firsthand our office and our partners across the Southeast put in long hours, lose sleep, and give everything they had to bring justice in this case. I’m proud of the work done and thankful for the teamwork involved.”

Johnson also thanked law enforcement partners across state lines and at the federal level for their role in locating and apprehending Holloway.

Authorities said Ariel Decarli, who was previously believed to be with Holloway and wanted for questioning, has been located. She was treated for injuries and is now with her family.

“We hope these developments bring some sense of peace to Justin’s family and friends, and we remain committed to seeing justice carried through,” Johnson said.

Funeral set for March 31

The press release by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office announcing Holloway’s arrest did not suggest a motive for the shooting. Thompson will be buried on Tuesday.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on March 31 at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming. Family and friends remember Thompson as a devoted father and husband who was always willing to help others.

He is survived by his wife and son.
