HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Habersham County has named Melanie Bellinger as its new Emergency Management Agency and 911 director, officials announced.

Bellinger brings nearly three decades of experience in emergency communications and public safety. She started as a communications officer in 1998 and worked her way up through leadership roles, most recently serving as interim director.

She has led major upgrades to the county’s emergency systems, including a new computer-aided dispatch system, improvements to the 911 phone network, and the integration of RapidSOS technology to speed response times. She has also helped guide disaster planning efforts and managed FEMA reimbursements after major events.

Bellinger holds several professional certifications and works with statewide organizations focused on emergency management and communications.

“I am honored to step into this role and continue serving our community,” Bellinger said. “I look forward to building on our strong foundation and strengthening our emergency response efforts.”

County Manager Tim Sims said Bellinger’s experience and leadership stood out.

“Melanie’s experience and proven leadership make her the right choice,” Sims said.

Bellinger succeeds Lynn Smith, who retired last year.
