Two men – one from Gainesville- are in the Forsyth County Jail after a rookie K9 known as “Guinness” had a successful “first track” recently.

FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE (FCSO) FACEBOOK POST (with some editing for brevity and clarity):

“Sgt. Bobby Francis was patrolling when he noticed a man walking down the side of the road, with a flashlight he kept pointing behind him at cars. While slowing down to turn around, he saw a man sitting beside a motorcycle. He pulled off the road, and turned his blue lights…and approached carefully. The man by the motorcycle crouched behind the motorcycle to hide, and then took off running into the woodline.

Sgt Francis requested another officer in the area, as he attempted to yell for the man. He then noticed the man walking, who soon identified himself as John, getting close as another deputy arrived. After breifly speaking to John, confirming he was not involved with the motorcyclist in any way, and asking why he was walking near vacant houses and a construction site, Sgt Francis handed him over to another deputy and requested more units and a K9 for tracking.

Master Deputy Bradford, our newest K9 handler arrived on scene with…Guinness. K9 Guinness hit the ground ready to work. As you see in this video (20) Facebook , K9 Guinness didn’t take long to locate the man and deputies quickly took him into custody. K9 Guinness received lots of love and scratches for his first track, and a successful one at that!

Sgt. Francis was just stopping to see if both men were okay, and in the end, they ended up incriminating themselves. Both men were arrested for various charges: Driving Under the Influence, Loitering and Prowling, Driving while License Suspended, or Revoked, Expired Registration with Invalid Plates.”

Sheriff’s office spokesman Stacie Miller said Thursday the arrests occurred last Thursday about midnight on Keith Bridge Road and Dahlonega Highway.

“John Pittman of Atlanta charged with Loitering and Prowling and Driving While License Suspended – $1420.50 bond,” Miller wrote in an email. “James Treadwell of Gainesville (was the one who ran and Guinness found). (He’s charged with) Loitering and Prowling, DUI, and Expired Registration/Invalid plates – $4570 Bond.”
