A Gainesville man has been charged by Connecticut authorities with larceny following a $103,000 wire transfer scheme that impacted a business in Oxford, Conn. Connecticut State Police identified the suspect as 70-year-old Daniel Boenke of a Lyncliff Drive address in Gainesville.

WSFB-TV in Hartford, Conn., reports Boenke was extradited from Georgia on Feb. 4 and faced a Superior Court judge the next day.

According to state police, Walz & Krenzer, which makes waterproof doors in Oxford, reported that it fell for a fraudulent email that looked like it came from one of its vendors.

The email arrived in mid-Sept. 2025. It claimed banking details had been changed, which led the Oxford company to send a wire payment of $103,000. The company reported the fraud to Oxford police later that month.

Boenke’s arrest warrant says investigators obtained bank records that showed the money transfer landed in an account for “Daniel the Craftsman LLC,” which was linked to the suspect.

State police said after the deposit, multiple large withdrawals were made from several Gainesville bank branches as well as locations in adjoining counties. Surveillance cameras and phone records showed Boenke in the vicinity at the time of the withdrawals.

Boenke was charged with first-degree larceny and his bond was set at $125,000.
