Parking citation scam; Gun violence poll; Rome man sentenced for threatening Trump

*The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) is cautioning residents about a parking citation scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming an unpaid infringement. DDS officials say do not to engage with these messages, as DDS does not contact individuals by text. WSAV reports that if you receive a suspicious message, ignore it and use an official link to check your status.

*A new poll shows Georgia parents are increasingly worried about their children seeing gun violence in schools and gun safety advocates rallied at the Capitol Monday to push for more protections for students and teachers in Georgia schools. Maggie Goldman telling ANF she’s advocating for safe gun storage legislation as well as for House Bill 1127, which would ban gun conversion devices, or switches, that allow for handguns to be turned into automatic weapons. But some at the Capitol, like Republican State Senator Frank Ginn say guns are not to blame for gun violence.

*Rome man, Jauan Rashun Porter, has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison for transmitting threats to kill President Trump. According to the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, Porter joined a TikTok livestream about the president captioned “Alligator Alcatraz,” commenting: “So there’s only one way to make America great and that is putting a bullet in between Trump’s eyes” and made several more similar threats before he was arrested.
