*Georgia’s lieutenant governor, who is running for governor, is continuing his push to eliminate state income tax. Burt Jones filed legislation on Friday that would phase most Georgians out of paying those withholdings by next year by getting rid of tax breaks for companies. The governor’s budget plan proposed an income tax rebate of more than one-billion-dollars. The state House decided last week to relieve property taxes instead of going with Governor Kemp’s plan.
*U.S. Homeland Security is the new owner of a warehouse in Social Circle that’s expected to be used as an ICE detention center. City officials posted on social media over the weekend that the sale was complete. This comes despite opposition from both the city council and citizens. The AJC reports inmates could be housed there as early as April.
