Will the staff at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s emergency room ever find out what’s happening at Westbridge Hospital?
In season 2, episode 4 of The Pitt, it’s “10:00 A.M.” and the hospital is reeling after Nurse Dana (Katherine LaNasa) informs them they will be covering the paramedic traffic that would normally go to Westbridge Hospital due to a “code black.”
While Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) and Dr. Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) kick things off by placing competing bets on what’s happening at Westbridge, Dr. Santos (Isa Briones) attempts to catch up on her charting between seeing patients. Meanwhile, Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball) opens up to a patient about his life outside of the hospital.
In a surprising moment, Dr. Whitaker (Gerran Howell) clues in a returning patient about Dr. Collins, played by Tracy Ifeachor, who announced her departure from the HBO Max series in July 2025.
“She’s the one that got away in some ways,” Wyle told PEOPLE ahead of the season 2 premiere of Dr. Collins and Dr. Robby’s relationship.
“He could not have given her what she wanted,” he added. “She was a rockstar on an ascension that he would only have been an impediment towards. And if she’s found happiness, God bless.”
So, what happened in season 2, episode 4 of The Pitt? Here’s a breakdown of everything that took place, from an explanation for Dr. Collins’ departure to Dr. Whitaker’s surprising friendship.

What is Dr. Langdon’s life update?

On his first day back at PTMC, Dr. Langdon was banished to triage by Dr. Robby, where he has been treating patients, including Willow (Elysia Roorbach), played by Ball’s real-life girlfriend.
However, in episode 4, Dr. Langdon pops in to visit Louie (Ernest Harden Jr.), a returning alcoholic patient who first appeared in season 1, and opens up to him about his personal life.
“They’re perfect little monsters,” Dr. Langdon says of his two kids. “Tanner’s 5 now, Penny’s 3.”
He adds, “They have zero interest in bedtime, then there’s the dog always digging up the yard.”
After he notices Dr. Robby and Dr. Al-Hashimi walking by Louie’s room, he exits but gives more information about the aftermath of his addiction, which was revealed in season 1.
“I just want to say I think it’s great that you’re in the physician’s health program, I know it’s a big commitment,” Dr. Al-Hashimi says after telling him she wants him to leave triage and assist the others in the ER.
“Yeah, it was hard at the beginning, but I’m almost done with year one now, only four more years to go,” he says while glancing toward Dr. Robby.
Across the room, Dana tries to convince Dr. Robby that Dr. Langdon’s return could be “the universe’s way of telling you it’s time to clear the air,” but he doesn’t seem convinced.
“I think [his] assuredness and front-footedness was a way of trying to outrun some things and trying to stay in front of his shadow,” Ball previously told PEOPLE of Langdon. “Over the last 10 months, he was forced to sit with that shadow. Now he’s coming back into this space without that assuredness.”
What does Dr. Whitaker reveal about his relationship with the wife of a former patient?

Season 1, episode 10 of The Pitt opened with Teddy Miller (Robert Nash), a severely burned victim of a propane tank explosion, being wheeled into the ER. Dr. Whitaker was one of the members of his medical team who met his pregnant wife, Amy Miller (Bailey Gavulic), when she arrived to be with her husband.
In this week’s episode, audiences not only learn that Teddy died in the ICU from his injuries, but that Amy and Dr. Whitaker developed a friendship at some point in the 10 months between seasons 1 and 2.
“This guy has been playing house with his widow and their baby,” Dr. Santos tells Dr. Javadi (Shabana Azeez), who adds, “That’s messy.”
“No, it’s not like that, okay. I’ve been helping Amy out on the farm after her husband died and she’s a friend, she’s just a friend,” Dr. Whitaker says, defending himself.
What happens to Jackson Davis?

Jackson Davis (Zack Morris) arrived at the ER via ambulance at the end of episode 2 and was extremely uncooperative at the start of episode 3 until the team was able to sedate him.
His sister, Jayda Davis (Erin Croom), arrives in episode 4, after Jackson’s drug screen comes back negative. She, along with his doctors, is hoping for answers as they await a CT scan of his brain.
“This just doesn’t make any sense, it doesn’t sound like my brother at all. He’s the friendliest guy I know. He doesn’t even get angry, barely yells,” Jayda tells Dr. Javadi, adding that he’s in law school and in “a great relationship.”
After his head CT results, along with his blood and urine tests, come back normal, Dr. Javadi suggests that a spinal tap may shed more light on why Jackson is so agitated.
What’s happening at Westbridge Hospital?

Episode 3 ended with Dana receiving a startling phone call, telling her that nearby Westbridge Hospital had a code black situation. However, more details were not revealed during the 10:00 a.m. hour, despite ambulance patients being diverted to PTMC.
While multiple people placed bets on security guard Ahmad Zidan’s (Johnath Davis) betting grid, including Dr. Robby’s $20 bet that Westbridge would be down for three hours due to flooding and that PTMC’s emergency department would receive 20 of their patients, more information is not revealed about exactly what happened.
How does the show address Dr. Collins’ absence?
John Johnson/HBO
Some information on Dr. Collins’ whereabouts is revealed during episode 4 after Louie asks Dr. Whitaker where she is.
With Dr. Robby listening in at the door, Dr. Whitaker explains that “Dr. Collins finished her residency, took up a job in Portland as an attending physician.”
“I think that’s where she’s from, she’s adopting a baby, wanted to be closer to her family,” he adds.
“That’s a beautiful thing,” Louie says as Dr. Robby closes the door.
