Netflix’s newly released comedy series Free Bert may be partially set in the upscale neighborhoods of Beverly Hills, but the show was actually filmed almost entirely in Metro Atlanta.

About Free Bert
Created by Bert Kreischer, Jarrad Paul, and Andy Mogel, the show follows stunt comedian and professional chaos agent Bert Kreischer, who gets fired from his TV series after publicly torching his network bosses. Suddenly grounded in domestic life, he’s forced to navigate Beverly Hills’ high-society circles alongside his wife LeeAnn and their daughters Ila and Georgia, who attend an elite private school.
At first, Bert tries to blend in — think PTA meetings, luxury fundraisers, and obsessively curated social hierarchies — until his daughter Georgia becomes the target of a cyberbullying campaign. That pushes Bert to drop the facade, embrace his true unfiltered self, and take on the most powerful family in her school.
The cast includes:
Bert Kreischer
Ava Ryan
Lilou Lang
Filming Took Place in Metro Atlanta, Not California
While the series showcases the private schools and lavish lifestyles of Los Angeles County, the production never actually filmed in Beverly Hills. Instead, the debut season of Free Bert was shot across Atlanta and its surrounding suburbs.
According to production reports, principal photography for Season 1 began in the second week of July 2025 and wrapped before mid-August 2025, marking just over a month of shooting.
Georgia has long been Hollywood’s favorite double for other major cities, and Free Bert continues that trend by using Atlanta stand-ins for famous California settings.
Georgia Filming Locations
Here are some of the key Metro Atlanta spots that appear in the series:
Woodward Academy — College Park, GA

Woodward Academy was used as the stand-in for Barklidge Academy, the elite private school attended by Bert’s daughters. The campus architecture and upscale academic atmosphere mirror Southern California prep schools surprisingly well.
Atlantic Station — Midtown Atlanta

Mall scenes in the series — including shopping trips and social encounters — were filmed at Atlantic Station, one of Atlanta’s most recognizable retail districts.
Magic City — Atlanta, GA

Yes — that Magic City.
The show includes strip club scenes shot at Magic City, the iconic Atlanta venue that has been referenced in countless songs, documentaries, and comedy routines. It’s hard to get more authentically Atlanta than that. Magic City — also appears in the FX series Atlanta, created by Donald Glover. Glover, of course, went on to play Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, joining the Star Wars universe as one of its most iconic characters.
Why Atlanta Works as Beverly Hills
Georgia’s film industry has become adept at transforming into other cities. For Beverly Hills-style exteriors and upscale environments, Metro Atlanta offers:
Private schools with manicured campuses
High-end residential neighborhoods
Luxury retail districts
A massive pool of industry crew and talent
Access to real soundstages for interiors
