MT. AIRY, Ga. — A large emergency response was dispatched to the Mt. Airy area early Wednesday after reports of a residential fire. The fire was accompanied by loud booming noises that nearby residents described as “explosions.”
Multiple fire units were dispatched around 2:51 a.m. to the 300 block of Thornbriar Way.
Residents in the Thornhill subdivision off GA 197 reported hearing sirens followed by repeated loud booms lasting 10 to 15 minutes. Officials have not confirmed the source of the noises.
At this time, there has been no official word on injuries or the cause of the fire.
