HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Thousands of Northeast Georgians remain without power in the wake of this weekend’s ice storm. Nearly 14,000 Georgia Power customers and 19,000 EMC members in the region still had no electricity as of 8 a.m. Monday. Most of the outages are concentrated in the areas hardest hit by the storm, stretching from Lumpkin County to White County and Rabun.
According to the Habersham EMC outage map, 71% of White County’s HEMC members remained without power early Monday, Jan. 26, up from 50% a day earlier. The local cooperative says it has over 350 personnel on the ground, including employees, conractors, and sister co-ops who are working to restore electricity. Estimated restoration times will fluctuate.
“We do know where every outage is and are doing our best to get to all of them as quickly and as safely as possible,” HEMC posted to social media on Monday.
Subfreezing temperatures continue to make travel treacherous, hindering restoration efforts.

Remaining power outages will pose challenges with strong winds and cold air moving through the region. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for North Georgia through Tuesday, Jan. 27.
