Turtleback Trailers Expedition Series Trailer: A Compact Basecamp [SHOT 2026]
Turtleback Trailers displayed the Expedition Series Trailer at SHOT Show 2026 as a small travel trailer that’s meant to live off pavement without feeling like “camping out of a trunk.” The foundation is a galvanized steel chassis paired with all-terrain tires, and the design leans hard into organized storage—modular drawers and roof rack space meant to keep gear from turning into a rolling junk drawer.
The setup is clearly aimed at the overlanding/hunting crowd that wants a compact basecamp that still supports long weekends (or longer) with a repeatable routine. Many owners pair it with a rooftop tent, which turns the trailer into an elevated sleeping platform while keeping the tow vehicle free for day runs. On the cooking side, Turtleback includes a slide-out kitchen with a stove and sink; a composite slide-out; a Cook Partner stove; and a Dometic sink as part of the kitchen system.

Turtleback lists tongue weight at 300 lbs and says an Expedition trailer requires a tow vehicle with a 3,500-lb towing capacity. Four-wheel drive isn’t required, but they recommend it for the best experience when you’re exploring or going off-roading. Expedition dimensions are listed at 154” x 75” x 66” (L x W x H).
Water and power are treated as core systems. The Expedition carries a 42-gallon water tank, and a UV/carbon water filtration system is standard on all T3 trailers (and optional on T2 packages). For charging, they note a vehicle with an Anderson plug can charge the trailer while being towed, and that solar panels or shore power can also be used when overlanding or camping with hookups. They also state that Turtleback trailers can accommodate almost any lithium battery.
My one takeaway, purely as a product-positioning choice, is that Turtleback seems to prioritize “liveability systems” (water, filtration, charging) as much as storage and kitchen convenience, which is usually the difference between a weekend rig and a legitimate travel platform.
