Kendra Scott and Zac Brown got engaged last July after a whirlwind romance, and the jewelry designer tells PEOPLE that the actual wedding, which will be taking place this summer, will be a “simple” affair.
“We’ll have a small wedding this summer just with our kids,” Scott, 51, says. “We’re not doing anything big. I mean, we’ve already been down that road, done the big weddings. We’re at a stage in our lives where you know, simple is better.”
Brown, 47, who shares five kids with his ex-wife, and Scott, who has three sons from her two marriages, say they only need immediate family in attendance.
“We already feel married in our hearts anyway, so we just want it to be something with our kids, something small and sweet. This summer we’re going to go on a vacation somewhere and take the kids with us. And yeah, we can’t wait for it,” she continued.

Scott recently talked to PEOPLE about how her three boys, Cade, 24, Beck, 21, and Grey, 12, love Brown, joking that they “put him through the wringer.”

“He really had to prove himself to them!” she said. “They’re very protective of me. But they love him, and they’re excited for the wedding. They’re just so happy to see me so happy and peaceful, and with somebody that they know is taking good care of me.”

“That’s really what brought us together. His camp, Southern Ground, is a camp for children, both typically developing and children on the spectrum, and children with autism,” she says. “And then he has a veteran program. And so the Kendra Scott Foundation had already supported that locally, and we were talking about how else we could work together.”
They both realized how much they had in common.
“Oh my gosh, it was like a mirror, when it came to our paths of wanting to use our creativity to do good in the world, and our unbelievable love of our children, how our family is our priority. There were just so many parallels, and we just connected in so many ways. And then when we met in person, you know, there was that spark.”
While on Today in October, Scott also opened up about their romantic proposal and how she’s not concerned that this will be her third marriage.
“You know, it’s never too late to get it right,” Brown added. “You got to keep fighting for love and believe in that. So I’m blessed.”
