A 19-year-old Lula man is facing a series of charges including DUI and driving with a license following a weekend hit-and-run accident involving a Hall County sheriff’s deputy’s patrol car.
HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:
“Deputies with the HCSO Accident Investigation and H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) Units conducted the investigation of the approximately 12:40 a.m. (Sunday) wreck.
According to the initial investigation, Derek Scott Moses…was driving in the middle of the road, heading south on Hasty Acres Road near Whitehall Road in a 2000 Ford Taurus. Deputy Austin Scott Flanagan, 30, was northbound in a 2024 Ford Explorer patrol vehicle. Deputy Flanagan attempted to avoid a collision by driving on the shoulder, but Moses’ car sideswiped the patrol SUV. Moses continued driving down Hasty Acres Road but ultimately stopped when followed by the deputy.
No one reported injuries and damage to the vehicles was minor.
A H.E.A.T. Unit deputy arrested Moses for hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on wrong side of roadway, DUI, no license on person and a safety belt violation. Moses is also charged with possession of schedule I drug (felony) for a THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) pen found in his possession during arrest.
Deputies took Moses to the Hall County Jail where he remains held on $5,390 bond.”
