Two product recalls have been issued after consumer safety officials warned that they violated child-resistant packaging standards that could lead to poisoning.
On Thursday, Dec. 18, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said in two separate announcements that it two companies had issued recalls on topical products after their packaging was deemed to not be child-resistant — “posing a risk of serious injury or death from poisoning if the contents are swallowed by young children.”
One product from Florida-based manufacturer MiramarLab and California-based distributor Plantimex is the Mamisan Pain Relieving Topical Ointment, which were sold in 3.52 ounce jars for $10 at stores including Walmart and Target stores across the country, as well as online, before Thursday’s recall.
The cream contains lidocaine and is rubbed into muscles to ease pain. According to the CPSC, the Poison Prevention Packaging Act requires all products containing this anesthetic to use child-resistant caps.

Only jars with UPC code 860006498115 are included in the recall, the agency said, and the impacted jars were sold from April 2024 through October 2025. No incidents or injuries have been reported.
According to the CPSC, consumers who purchased this ointment should “immediately secure the recalled ointment jars out of the sight and reach of children and contact Plantimex to receive a free replacement lid.”
When a replacement lid has been added, consumers can use the ointment as normal.
The CPSC also announced that a beard product from Feel The Beard, manufactured in China, was recalled for a similar issue.
The agency wrote that the company’s Feel The Beard Minoxidil Beard Growth Oil for Men had also violated the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, as it contained minoxidil and was not sold in child-resistant packaging.

Minoxidil is often used to treat pattern hair loss and, less commonly, as an oral tablet to treat severe high blood pressure. If the topical version is ingested, it can cause severe drops in blood pressure.

This recall includes about 840 units of the oil, which were sold on Amazon.com from April 2025 through September 2025 for about $10.
No injuries have been reported, and the CPSC has instructed consumers to immediately secure the recalled bottles and take them out of reach of children. Anyone who has purchased these bottles can contact Feel The Beard for instructions on destroying the recalled bottles (which can be poured into a trash can) and receiving a replacement.
A number of other products have been recalled this year for similar violations of the
Poison Prevention Packaging Act, including iron vitamins and Benadryl.
The act was put into law in 1970, and it requires certain substances to be in special packaging, meaning it they are “significantly difficult” for children under 5 years of age to open within a reasonable time and not difficult for adults to use properly, according to the CPSC.
