At least seven people were killed, and 11 others were injured, after a passenger bus collided with a truck on a highway in southern Turkey.

The incident occurred the morning of Saturday, Dec. 6, on a route between the cities of Izmir and Gaziantep, according to Turkey’s state-owned news agency, Anadolu Agency (AA). The accident took place when a large passenger bus rear-ended a truck that was stopped on the road due to a flat tire, per AA.

Numerous police teams and emergency workers were dispatched to the scene. Initial reports from the Osmaniye Governor’s Office stated that seven bus passengers were killed and 11 passengers were injured as a result of the crash, per the outlet.

PEOPLE reached out to both the Osmaniye Governor’s Office and the Osmaniye Police for comment on Sunday, Dec. 7, but did not receive an immediate response.

A video of the aftermath of the incident shared by AA shows workers cleaning up debris and wreckage from the crash. The front right side of the passenger bus appears to have been destroyed.

The truck driver survived the incident and was detained by police, according to local news outlets Turkish Minute and the Daily Sabah

“I extend my condolences and God’s mercy to the citizens who lost their lives in the accident that occurred when a tow truck rear-ended a passenger bus traveling on the Osmaniye–Gaziantep route in Bahçe district of our province,” he wrote.

He added, “I offer my sympathies to their families and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
