Publix Launches Special Cakes for People with Birthdays in This Month

People with December birthdays don’t have to worry about getting lost in the holiday shuffle this year, as one major grocery store chain is offering a special birthday cake to celebrate their special day.

Last month, Publix launched a new campaign that aims to wish those whose birthdays often conflict with Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and more by selling “Merry Birthday” cakes.

According to the Florida-based chain, these tasty desserts are available as two-tier and one-tier cakes, and are described as “part birthday cake and part holiday dessert.”

“It’s made with two tiers of six-layer cakes iced with pink buttercream and topped with green buttercream Christmas trees and white buttercream swirls,” Publix writes on its website. “This cake is available in your choice of chocolate or vanilla and serves 18-22.”

The Merry Birthday cakes are made by hand, as Publix ices both tiers with pink buttercream and fills the top layer with festive red and green Christmas-blend sprinkles, and the cakes are available in both chocolate and vanilla.

Buttercream is also used to decorate the top and bottom tiers, and red buttercream dots, birthday bows, and candy canes are added on top, along with green buttercream Christmas trees with pearl sprinkles, white buttercream swirls topped with Maraschino cherries, red buttercream Santa hats, and a dusting of white edible glitter — “to give it a sparkling, wintery look.”

Of course, the cakes will also feature “Merry Birthday” piped in frosting — though Publix also offers other custom messages if needed.

The one-tier cake, named the “Merry Birthday Mini Cake,” is perfect for smaller birthday parties, serving five people and featuring four layers of cake.

The mini cake is also available in chocolate and vanilla and features similar icing and red buttercream dots and bows, as well as Maraschino cherries, but does not feature any writing.

“The result is a beautiful, delicious cake that is sure to make your Christmas birthday party memorable,” the chain states.

According to Publix’s website, both cakes can be ordered online and the mini cake is available in stores. The larger cake requires advance ordering, and stores should be given 24-hour notice before pickup.

“Wish your loved ones a Merry Christmas and happy birthday with the Merry Birthday Cake from Publix,” the store adds.

Social media users were quick to announce their excitement for the brand-new dessert — especially those who celebrate their birthdays in December.

“As someone whose birthday is 12/27, this is a dream come true! 🥹” one user commented underneath Publix’s Instagram post, showing off the sweet treat.
