Two men are in the Hall County Jail after a verbal altercation resulted in a shooting on Friday, Nov. 28, outside of a convenience store in Flowery Branch.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman B.J. Williams said John Wesley Melton, 31, of Flowery Branch, and Kyle Rashawn Ramsey, 28, of Gainesville, both face two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm in connection with the shooting.

Melton was arrested at his home on Plainview Road, and Ramsey turned himself in at the jail on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Williams said deputies were dispatched just before 7:15 p.m. to the Citgo convenience store at Atlanta Highway and Plainview Road. When they arrived, they found Kenneth Andre Loving, 29, of Flowery Branch, lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his right leg.

Loving was conscious and able to speak, but he declined to give information on what had happened to him. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“Deputies who were at the scene, along with some Oakwood Police Department officers, did find a handgun in the bushes next to the business, and they also found a 40 caliber shell casing in the parking lot,” Williams said.

Criminal investigators discovered Melton and the victim had walked to the convenience store, where they encountered Ramsey and his father, Charles Rico Ramsey, 52, at the side of the store.

According to investigators, Melton and Rico Ramsey had an ongoing dispute, and a verbal argument began.

The argument erupted into a physical fight, and Rico and Kyle Ramsey returned to their vehicle.

“Investigators determined both Rico and Kyle Ramsey were armed with handguns during this altercation,” Williams said. “Kyle Ramsey fired a weapon from the fleeing vehicle, and the bullet struck Mr. Loving in the leg.”

Rico Ramsey reportedly dropped his handgun during the altercation. Melton allegedly picked up the gun and fired it at the vehicle as the Ramseys were driving away.

Melton and Kyle Ramsey are being held with no bond at the Hall County Jail.
