On Tuesday, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced that he would appoint a review commission due to Towns County Sheriff Ken Henderson’s indictment.
That indictment stemmed from an alleged incident in December of last year between Henderson and Hiawassee Police Department (HPD) officer José Carvajal that led to Henderson facing three counts of violation of oath by a public officer, one county of false imprisonment under color of law, one count of false imprisonment, one county of simple battery on a police officer, and one count of simple battery.
Attorney General Chris Carr, Coweta County Sheriff Lenn Wood, and Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown are on the review commission, the same three tasked with investigating and submitting a report to Kemp back in September.
Henderson was subsequently suspended for 60 days on Oct. 21. That suspension is still active, but Tuesday’s executive order said that since 14 days had passed since receiving Henderson’s indictment, the review commission must submit a written report within 14 days as to whether Henderson should be suspended.
That would be Dec. 16 when it is made public what the next steps for Henderson is.
