Chief Appraiser for the Hall County Bord of Tax Assessors Steve Watson announced his retirement, effective Wednesday, Dec. 31.
“I am grateful for Steve’s distinguished service and contributions to Hall County, and I wish him an exciting and rewarding retirement filled with quality time with his wonderful family,” Hall County Board of Assessors Chairman Eric Jackson said in a social media post from Hall County Government announcing his retirement.
Watson has collectively worked for the Hall County Government organization for nearly 22 years. He served as a residential staff supervisor for the county from 1985 to 1992 and as director and chief appraiser from 2011 to 2025.
He has also overseen Hall County property valuations during times of significant community growth and economic changes, Hall County Government said.
“I am grateful for my employment with Hall County, which has gifted me with experiences and opportunities that have been extraordinary,” Watson said. “Working with the professionals in the economic development community has been rewarding, as we have seen Gainesville and Hall County grow and prosper. Without question, I am indebted to my friends at the Community Council on Aging and Meals on Wheels, which redeveloped me as a human. And last but certainly not least, I am grateful to my sweet mother who prayed for me without ceasing, my dear sweet wife who tolerates me no matter what, and my daughter and her husband who always have my six.”
The process to select a new director and chief appraiser will begin immediately. Once available, the position will be posted online at hallcounty.org/jobs, according to the announcement.
