No injuries were reported after a structure and woods fire on Friday, Nov. 21, near the 600 block of Gainesville Highway in Winder.
The Barrow County Fire Department reported that the fire was initially called in at around 1:30 p.m., with first-arriving units finding one building fully engulfed in flames, as well as an active woods fire.
The building was unoccupied, and the fire was brought under control by BCFD, the Georgia Forestry Commission, the Winder Fire Department and the Jackson Trail Fire Department.
“Our crews and partnering agencies worked efficiently to prevent the fire from spreading further into the woods,” Fire Chief Brett Skinner said. “We appreciate the teamwork and quick response that helped bring this incident under control.”
When the fire was extinguished, the Barrow County Fire Marshal’s Office conducted an investigation.
The fire was determined to be accidental, and the fire department reminds residents to use caution when conducting any outdoor burning.
Residents should obtain a burn permit on applicable days and follow all safety guidelines.
