To be honest, you could probably beat the Charlotte 49ers even if a few guys were a little checked out here and there. But that ain’t how they roll in Athens.
Instead, Kirby Smart got a total team effort from his Dawgs. Yet even still, a handful of Georgia Bulldogs distinguished themselves among their peers. Those standouts are your MVDs, the Most Valuable ‘Dawgs from Georgia’s 35-3 win over the Charlotte 49ers.
Offense: The offensive line. They played as a unit and I oh it them as a unit. The Bulldogs ran for 192 yards without really doing anything complicated, instead just mashing the 49ers from pillar to post. This unit really has rounded into shape at precisely the right time, and may have the pieces in place for a promising unit in 2026.
Defense:Elijah Griffin. The true freshman’s stat line (1 solo tackle, 1.5 tackles for loss) wasn’t gaudy, but he absolutely lived in the 49ers’ backfield for most of his time on the field. Georgia has everything to play for still in 2025, but to continue our theme I am unspeakably excited to see Griffin helm the point of attack in 2026 for the UGA defense.
Special Teams: Zachariah Branch. I was tempted to go with Brett Thorson, who had a much more effective day punting the ball after a rough outing against Texas. But Branch’s 27 yard punt return to set up a touchdown really helped put this one away early. While Branch hasn’t had a ton of flashy kick returns this season, he’a been solidly reliable. In special teams, that can sometimes yield excellent results. The first step to being brilliant in the kicking game is to not do dumb things, and I remain confident in Branch not to do dumb things. Until later…
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
