Renan Romero Rezende — a Brazilian motorcycling influencer known online as Gigante du Grau — died in an alleged shooting on Wednesday, Nov. 19. He was 32.
Rezende’s friends confirmed the news of the creator’s death in a series of posts to his Instagram Stories on Nov. 20, sharing the timing of his memorial service later in the day.
According to local authorities, the internet personality was in the process of dropping off two motorcycles to be painted in Ribeirao Preto — a city in southeast Brazil — when he was allegedly approached by two men in a car who fired several shots at him, killing the influencer, as reported by Brazilian news outlet g1. The alleged altercation was captured in a video obtained by the outlet.

Military Police Lieutenant Lucas Aguiar told a local news outlet that suspects have not yet been named in the investigation, though authorities are using characteristics of the vehicle the suspects exited to help identify them, per g1.

“Whether it’s related to the fact that he was an influencer, or to the activity he carried out, we can’t say yet,” the lieutenant said, according to g1. “It depends on the investigation, which will now be conducted by the Civil Police, who will investigate whether he actually had any connection or involvement with any illegal activity.”

Rezende maintained a following of over 169,000 on Instagram, where he shared videos of his daring motorcycle tricks. The internet personality uploaded several posts to his Instagram Stories in the hours before his death, including a video of what appeared to be the two motorcycles he was dropping off to be painted.

“Nobody deserves to have gone through this, but let’s not let it go unnoticed,” one of Rezende’s friends said in a video uploaded to the creator’s Instagram Stories after his death.

In a post uploaded to the official account for the Barretos Moto Fest, a Brazilian motorcycle festival, the late creator was remembered for his “huge heart.”
“A person who will be missed a lot,” continued the tribute. “Rest in peace bro! Our sincere condolences to all family and friends.”
