NEED TO KNOW
- Natalie Greene, 26, was working as a staff assistant for Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.) when she reported an alleged attack on July 23, 2025
- Prosecutors say Greene paid a Pennsylvania scarification artist to inflict her wounds hours before the report, according to the complaint
- “Co-Conspirator 1” allegedly searched “zip ties near me” on July 21, 2025, two days before Greene called 911, per the complaint
Natalie Greene, a former GOP congressional aide who claimed she was ambushed by three men on a New Jersey trail in July, is now accused by federal prosecutors of staging the attack herself.
According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court and a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, Greene, 26, previously worked in the district office of Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.). Prosecutors allege she conspired with another woman to fabricate a politically motivated assault in Egg Harbor Township on July 23, 2025.
The complaint alleges that Greene paid a body-modification and scarification artist to cut patterns into her skin hours before reporting the attack, and that a friend — identified by authorities only as Co-Conspirator 1 — called 911 and claimed the pair had been ambushed on a wooded trail.
Greene was found by Egg Harbor Township police lying on the ground with her wrists and ankles zip-tied, her shirt pulled over her head, and numerous lacerations on her face, neck, upper chest and shoulder. Officers also observed phrases written on her torso, including “TRUMP WHORE” on her stomach and “[Federal Official 1] IS RACIST” on her back.
Co-Conspirator 1 told a 911 operator that “three guys just attacked us” and said the men referenced Greene’s employer during the alleged assault, per the complaint.

Greene told officers that two men had grabbed her, tied her with zip ties, struck her in the head and cut her with a sharp object. She also said one attacker told her he had a gun and would shoot her if she screamed. The complaint notes that Greene repeated these claims to multiple law enforcement officers over the following days, including an FBI agent.
Investigators later alleged that Greene’s wounds were inflicted by a Pennsylvania scarification artist, referred to as Individual 1. According to the complaint, Greene drove to the artist’s studio on the afternoon of July 23, where she paid $500 in cash for cuts that followed a pattern she had selected beforehand. Individual 1 allegedly provided investigators with photos documenting the procedure — images prosecutors say match the wounds photographed on Greene’s body at the hospital later that night.
Detectives reviewed Greene’s phone, which the complaint alleges contained a Reddit account subscribed to body-modification and scarification communities. Her map history included directions to the Pennsylvania studio, to Co-Conspirator 1’s home, to a Dunkin’ Donuts in Atlantic City, and finally to the Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve, where the alleged attack was reported. Investigators found consent and waiver forms tied to the procedure dated July 23, 2025, and messages showing Greene discussing scarification patterns with the artist and asking about pain levels and aftercare.
Prosecutors also allege that Co-Conspirator 1’s phone had been used two days before the incident to search for “zip ties near me.” Law enforcement later recovered black zip ties in Greene’s Maserati that resembled the ones used to bind her wrists and ankles and to secure her shirt over her head.
During interviews with police, Greene said she had been receiving threats related to her job and referenced workplace hate mail, according to the complaint. But according to the complaint, investigation allegedly later revealed that Greene had not, in fact, been attacked by three men at gunpoint. It alleges she staged the scene with the help of her co-conspirator, per the documents.
Greene appeared in federal court on Nov. 19, 2025, on one count of conspiracy to convey false information and hoaxes and one count of making false statements to federal law enforcement, per the complaint and DOJ release. She was released on a $200,000 unsecured bond with conditions set by the court.
