After it was reported in February of this year that plans were made for a new cluster of schools near Hoschton in western Jackson County, construction continues as the schools eye a 2027 and 2028 opening.

The Jackson County School System posted on Friday that the property that will house the new Hoschton High School, Hayes Farm Elementary School, and Sell’s Mill Middle School has seen significant progress.

This comes after the Jackson County School Board voted in February of 2024  to purchase over 170-acres of land off of Ga. 332 and Boone Road.

The retaining wall for HHS is now underway. HHS and HFES are slated to open in the fall of 2027, while SMMS is set to open in the fall of 2028.

Jackson County School System Public Information Officer Edward Hooper said earlier this year that the goal with the redistricting will be to have the three county high schools (Hoschton, Jackson County and East Jackson high schools) be roughly the same population.

The school system has been surveying students who will attend the high school for input on colors and a mascot, but no decision has been made public as of yet.

A total general obligation bond of $200-million will go toward the facility according to the system, although other upgrades throughout the county’s schools are included in that price tag.
