GAINESVILLE – Gainesville scored the last 48 points of the contest in a 48-3 rout of Dunwoody Friday night in the opening round of the Class 5A playoffs.

After Dunwoody kicked a 38-yard field goal, Kharim Hughley got things going, finding Legend Wilmont for a 9-yard and a 22-yard touchdown. From there, Demarion Matthews ran a fake punt for 52 yards and a touchdown before a pair of pick sixes made the score 34-3.

Hughley kept it going with a 22-yard passing score to Cameron James to cap a 31-point second quarter. Hughley linked up with Dwight Lewis in the third to wrap up the scoring.

Hughley finished 12-for-20 for 169 and four passing touchdowns, while Nigel Newkirk had 92 rushing yards to lead the running game.

Gainesville will travel to Brunswick next week for the second round. Brunswick blew past Winder-Barrow, 78-30.
