TOCCOA, Ga. — A Stephens County man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the stabbing death of Angela Baker of Toccoa.

Superior Court Judge Carlton H. Jones II sentenced Corey Lydell Bryant on Wednesday, November 12, to life without parole plus six years. Bryant was convicted last month of malice murder and several related charges.

The case began on November 22, 2024, when family members found 42-year-old Baker dead inside her East Franklin Street home. Toccoa Police requested help from the GBI, and investigators located Bryant, then 36, a short time later. He was first arrested on an unrelated fight that same day.

According to the GBI, Bryant and Baker had been in a relationship. Evidence later showed he assaulted her with a knife between the evening of November 21 and the morning of November 22 before fleeing the scene. The GBI charged him with malice murder on November 25.

During the weeklong trial, prosecutors presented more than 200 pieces of evidence linking Bryant to Baker’s death.

The District Attorney’s Office thanked the GBI, the Toccoa Police Department, and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office for their work on the case.
