A driver from Hartwell has died from an overnight rollover wreck in Hart County Tuesday.
A press release early Tuesday morning from Georgia State Patrol (GSP) indicted that the 2013 Volkswagen GTI driven by 23-year-old Michael Richard Wilcox was traveling along New Prospect Road northbound near Wyndward Point Drive after 1:15 a.m. when the vehicle left the roadway.
GSP added that the driver lost control and traveled off the east shoulder of the roadway. The Volkswagen traveled over 500 feet in a pasture and struck a fence. After the initial impact, the Volkswagen continued traveling in the pasture and struck another small tree. After the secondary impact, the Volkswagen rotated and began to overturn. T
Officials say the driver of the Volkswagen (Wilcox) was unrestrained and was partially ejected from the vehicle. Wilcox was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
The GSP said that the next-of-kin have been notified and believe that driver impairment is suspected to have factored in the wreck.
