HART COUNTY, Ga. — A 23-year-old Hartwell man died early Tuesday morning after a single-vehicle crash in Hart County.
According to Georgia State Patrol Post 52, troopers were dispatched to the scene on New Prospect Road near Wyndward Point Drive at approximately 1:18 a.m. on November 11. A preliminary investigation determined that a blue 2013 Volkswagen GTI, driven by Michael Richard Wilcox, was traveling north when it left the east shoulder of the roadway.
The vehicle traveled approximately 532 feet in a pasture before striking a fence and then a small tree. The impact caused the car to overturn, partially ejecting Wilcox. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt. Wilcox was pronounced dead at the scene.
The State Patrol crash report said driver impairment is suspected.
