NEED TO KNOW
- Fire Country premiered on CBS in 2022
- Though the firefighter drama is set in a small town in Northern California, most of the show’s four seasons have been filmed in Canada
- The production crew used a real-life fire station for some shots of the fictional Station 42
The characters in Fire Country take pride in defending their Northern California town from devastating wildfires. But the show’s fiery action is actually filmed hundreds of miles away from the Golden State.
Inspired by the real-life Cal Fire (California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection) program, the CBS drama follows a group of firefighters — including incarcerated volunteers — who risk their lives to protect their community while earning a shot at redemption.
Although Fire Country is set in California, filming actually takes place primarily in Vancouver, British Columbia, which co-creator and star Max Thieriot believes isn’t that different from the show’s setting.
“Canada goes through more than their fair share of fires,” the SEAL Team actor told The Gate in May 2024. “I know last year was wild and very difficult … Certainly, something that has been in a lot of people’s minds these days.”
Thieriot also noted that some of the real firefighters who work on Fire Country are from Canada and said that filming there has “been wonderful.”
So, where is Fire Country filmed? Here’s everything to know about the real-life filming locations of the CBS drama, including scenes inside Station 42.

The CBS drama may be a very California-heavy show, but production mostly takes place in Canada. However, filmmakers have included a few scenic shots of Rio Dell, a city in Humboldt County, Calif. Lost Coast Outpost reported that the season 1 trailer for Fire Country features aerial shots of the Eel River Valley and Wildwood Avenue.
Thieriot, who also co-created the series, grew up not too far away in a town called Occidental, Calf., about three hours south of Rio Dell. He told POPSUGAR in October 2022 that his small hometown inspired the series.
“When everybody knows everybody, it can be a really great thing and also not such a great thing at the same time,” the actor said, adding that a lot of his friends from home became firefighters.
He continued, “I felt like I really wanted to set the show in that world … It just felt like the ramifications of … how all these things affect everybody just seemed like they were elevated.”

Though it’s inspired by the many small towns that make up the wildfire-prone Northern California, Fire Country‘s Edgewater, Calif., is not real.
The Fire Country production team uses a combination of two similarly charming British Columbia villages — Anmore and Fort Langley — to make up the fictional community.
This isn’t the first time these Canadian communities have played host to Hollywood. The region has also served as filming locations for shows like The X-Files, Supernatural, Riverdale, Once Upon a Time and Smallville.
Where are scenes in Station 42 filmed?
CBS
A real-life fire station has served as the fictional Station 42 in Fire Country. The official Instagram page for the Sasamat Volunteer Fire Department shared in September 2022 that the Anmore Fire Station was used in the show.
Although unconfirmed, scenes inside Station 42 are likely shot on a soundstage.

Thieriot told The Gate that Fire Country has filmed mostly in Vancouver. Though many scenes take place in the small villages of Anmore and Fort Langley, a large amount of production happens at Vancouver Film Studios. Specifically, scenes in Edgewater’s bar, restaurant, local hospital and the characters’ homes are shot there.
Diane Farr, who plays fire captain Sharon Leone, told PEOPLE that she was filming Fire Country in Canada when the Los Angeles wildfires ravaged her hometown in January 2025. She said she hopes her platform on the show will continue to spread the word about all that Cal Fire does.

“They go to a fire, and they live at it,” she said in January 2025. “We talk about firemen working 24-hour shift, or two days on and three days off. The Cal Fire personnel camp at the fire line, and they don’t leave until the fire’s out. Once the fire is out, those firefighters stay to do the cleanup, which is some of the hardest, least thankful work.”
Farr continued, “So, in some ways, filming right now feels a little bit more humbling to me because I feel like so many more people are aware of what Cal Fire is, and for the very first time, folks are aware that the incarcerated are the only way we can handle these fires.”
