Officials with the Pickens County School District are internally dealing with a recent social media post by a teacher during non-classroom time that many residents have deemed to be insensitive to immigrants.

The school system posted on its social media page Wednesday that the matter at hand is a personnel matter, and cannot be discussed publicly.

A statement from Superintendent Dr. Travis Thomas to Pickens County School District parents through their Infinite Campus Messenger this week appeared on the Pickens County Schools – GA Facebook page and said, “Pickens County School District is aware of a social media post by a district employee. that has caused concern in our community. Because this involves a personnel issue, we are limited in what we can share publicly, but please know that we take this situation seriously, and are addressing this through our internal processes.”

The matter in question is a picture posted by Tate Elementary School administrator and bookkeeper Wendy Gleason.  An image from her page reported by 11 Alive.com shows her in a sombrero, poncho and fake moustache, while alongside her husband, who dressed in a costume resembling at ICE (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement) agent.
