After reports of a large law enforcement presence near the Tom Arrendale Interchange in Habersham County, authorities are now saying it was due to a domestic incident.
According to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, 65-year-old Hayward Eugene Fuller of Gainesville has been charged with false imprisonment and possession of methamphetamine.
Deputies were dispatched to Toccoa Highway just after 5 p.m. on Monday to a reported carjacking, but investigators determined that resulted from confusion from the uninvolved 9-1-1 caller.
A female victim in Fuller’s vehicle was reportedly being held against her will, and there was an altercation between the two.
When they stopped at a business on Toccoa Highway, Fuller got out of the vehicle and the victim reportedly got into the driver’s seat and fled.
Fuller allegedly had an old scab on his arm and during the altercation, it began to bleed leading one 9-1-1 caller to report that a stabbing had occurred.
The victim and vehicle were located nearby, and the meth was located inside the vehicle.
Fuller was arrested and taken to the Habersham County Detention Center where he remains as of last report.
