The BLITZ Football Players of the Week are Dustin Barrett (Towns County), Alex Freeman (White County), and CJ Hays (Jefferson). Barrett won the Fan Vote with 4,375 of the 6,386 total votes. Freeman and Hays were the BLITZ Picks.
DUSTIN BARRETT – TOWNS COUNTY
Towns County’s Dustin Barrett is no stranger to putting up numbers. But this football season has been different, as the senior made the unselfish move from star RB to QB (which hurts the numbers). He did what was best for the Indians, and rewarded the team with leading them to a 7-3 season, tying the best season ever. In the Thursday finale, he tallied four TDs, two passing and two rushing, with 151 total yards. He added several tackles as well. This is his 8th career POW award.
ALEX FREEMAN – WHITE COUNTY
Alex Freeman closed out the season strong, putting up a career-high five TD passes against Johnson to lead White County to victory. The Warriors’ senior had 163 passing yards on the game as well. He finished the season with 1,563 passing yards and 16 TD against 11 INT. This is his second career POW award.
CJ HAYS – JEFFERSON
Buy stock now on CJ Hays. Five games into the season, he had not even appeared in a varsity game. With the season-ending injury to star Max Brown, the Dragons needed someone to step up at RB. Enter Hays. The freshman has been over 100 yards in three of his five games played. He went for 76 yards and three TDs in his first game (win over West Hall). Then he tallied a 208-yd game, and has a 143-yd and 191-yd game as well. Last week, he led the Dragons’ attack with 191 rushing yards and a TD as Jefferson claimed a fourth straight region title. For the season, Hays has 697 rushing yards and seven TD on just 89 carries (7.8 YPC).
