CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — Hills Crossing Baptist Church once again partnered with the international ministry Love Packages to share the Word of God around the world. The church hosted its 8th Annual Christian Literature Drive on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon in Clarkesville.
Organizers said this year’s turnout surpassed expectations. Volunteers sorted and packed 32 pallets of Christian literature during Saturday’s event, enough to fill more than one tractor-trailer.
“We shipped two tractor-trailers last year and were praying for three this year,” Canup said. “We’ve already shipped two, so this gives us over three for the year. We are ecstatic!”
Each pallet weighs about 1,000 pounds, with roughly two pieces of literature per pound. Canup said statistics show each piece touches about 20 people in the countries where it’s sent. Based on those numbers, Saturday’s 32 pallets could reach an estimated 1.28 million people with messages of hope and faith.
Since launching the annual local drive eight years ago, Canup says they’ve collected and shipped more than 100 tons of Christian literature to communities worldwide where access to Christian books and Bibles is limited.
Community members helped by donating new and gently used materials such as Bibles, devotionals, tracts, nonfiction Christian books, and magazines. The ministry also accepts media such as CDs and DVDs.
Volunteers also helped by sorting and loading donations and contributing money to help with shipping costs.
