Monday ‘Dawg Bites: It’s Great To Be A Gator Hater

We’ve got spirit, yes we do. And we hate the Gators, how about you?

Here’s hoping you enjoyed a restful bye week and are ready to dive back into the maelstrom of college football with this, the hatingest week of the year for many in Bulldog Nation. I understand that ‘Dawg fans who grew up in the Columbus area and came of age in the 80s hate Auburn. And that those of you whose formative college football years began during Nick Saban’s reign of terror really dislike Alabama.

But for a fan like me who came of age in the 1990s below the gnat line there will never, ever be enough opportunities to beat the jorts off of the Florida Gators. They eat boogers and their mommas dress them funny and most of them are uncultured heathens who probably put sugar on their grits, which are probably instant grits at that.

There are 50 ways to leave your lover according to Paul Simon. And there are at least that many ways to hate the Florida Gators. Let’s get you caught up on the Georgia Bulldogs news you need to know so you can work your way through the entire list by Saturday.

Georgia opens as a 7.5 point favorite over the Gators, which would seem a little low based on recent performance. But it seems about right to me when you figure in the “interim bounce.” Teams playing under an interim often have a renewed energy and some new schematic wrinkles that make them a tougher matchup. Add in a bye week for Billy Gonzales to steady the ship and this one sets up as a tougher test than it might first appear.

Somebody is going to have to coach the Gators next season. With LSU’s decision to part ways with Brian Kelly the sweepstakes to land a replacement might have gotten a little tougher for Florida AD Scott Stricklin. Blake Toppmeyerof the Gainesville Sun notes that Lane Kiffin is the clear home run hire, but if he doesn’t agree to come to Gainesville the options thin out quickly.

And as Hail Florida Hail notes, Stricklin doesn’t have a great track record on head coach hires.

I don’t want to unnecessarily ignite hope in anyone’s heart. But is it possible the Bulldogs’ offensive line is becoming a really nasty unit?

Away from Sanford Stadium, basketball season is coming right up. Georgia kicked things off with an exhibition victory over Troy, and Jordan Hill of Dawgs247 has some key takeaways.

That should get you started. Until later…

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
